TECHNICAL GUIDE
Material:
1), 2)
Steel
All coiled pin diameters
C ≥ 0.64
Mn ≥ 0.60
Si ≥ 0.15
Cr 3)
P ≤ 0.04
S ≤ 0.05
Hardened and tempered to a hardness of HV 420 to 545
Finish: Finish: No particular treatment, i.e. unless otherwise specified, the coiled pins will be supplied as tempered, treated with a protective lubricant.
Appropriate coating process should be selected to avoid hydrogen embrittlement. If the pins are electroplated or phosphate-coated, they should be suitably treated immediately after this process to preclude detrimental hydrogen embrittlement. However, it cannot be guaranteed that the pins are absolutely free from hydrogen embrittlement. All tolerances shall apply prior to the application of the coating. Possible surface coatings are: scouring and polishing, zinc plating, chromate coating, tin plating (solderable), phosphate coating, nickel plating and brass plating.

Material:

Austenitic Stainless Steel
C ≤ 0.15
Mn ≤ 2.00
Si ≤ 1.50
Cr 16-19
Ni 6-11
P ≤ 0.045
S ≤ 0.03

Cold-hardened
Finish: Plain, i.e. the coiled pins should be supplied as manufactured.
Quality: The coiled pins will be uniform in quality and free of irregularities.
The coiled pins will be burr-free.
Testing: The shear strength test should be carried out in accordance with
ISO 8749
ISO 3269 is applicable for the acceptance test.
1) The material must comply with the determined composition .
2) Other materials upon agreement
3) Use of Cr as an alternative
